7 things to do in Crewe

You may have noticed some of the fabulous developments we have available and coming soon in Crewe. But how much do you really know about this picturesque railway town, and what is there to do in the area?

During the 19th century, Crewe was one of the world’s greatest railway workshops, it was also once the home to Rolls Royce motors, and Bentley cars are still manufactured in the town. However, aside from the rich industrial history, Crewe has so much more to offer.

One of the things you really want to know, when moving to a new area, is what you can get up to at the weekends! So, in no particular order, here are seven fantastic ways to spend your time in and around Crewe:

  1. Queens Park Garden: This is 45 acres of beautiful scenery for everyone to enjoy, encompassing a gorgeous lake. There are a series of lovely walks to take around the gardens, along with fun activities for children such as the bug hotel, play area cycleway and boating on the lake. But don’t worry, it’s not just for kids, there is also a bowling green available and even an outdoor gym. Whether you’re after an activity-laden Saturday or a lazy Sunday, this park is ideally suited for you.

  1. Bars & Music: As well as your usual selection of coffee shops and franchise eateries, Crewe is awash with charming tea rooms and quirky bars to enjoy. The thriving music scene is up and coming, and open mic nights and bingo nights are amongst the choices available to you for an evening on the town. But don’t go out on an empty stomach – there are plenty of fabulous restaurants to tantalise your taste buds beforehand.

  1. Shopping: Shoppers in Crewe will be delighted by the range of retail outlets on their doorstep. The Market is an indoor and outdoor shopping centre that offers fashion shops, hair & beauty, leisure, and much more. Most shops in the centre are open until 7pm, so you can even nip by after work. There are also a number of places to grab a coffee and a bite to eat – always handy to keep that shopping energy up!

  1. Crewe Hall: Crewe Hall is a popular tourist attraction – a Jacobian stately mansion that draws visitors in from near and far to experience luxury in all its regal splendour. Offering spa packages and a delightful afternoon tea, this is so much more than just a hotel. This Grade I listed building has been attracting refined guests to its extensive grounds since the 17th Century, and has even been visited by our current Monarch, Queen Elizabeth II.

  1. Theatre: The theatre scene is re-entering the stage with a bang in Crewe. Lyceum Theatre has a schedule of fantastic shows and events year-round. With a variety of entertainment for adults, families, kids… just about everyone really!

  1. Crewe Heritage Centre: Explore the amazing history of the town and find out what’s made Crewe tick – or chug – along all these years. Built on the site of the original locomotive works, this fascinating museum pays homage to the industrial heritage of the town. Featuring working exhibits, traditional signal boxes, miniature railway, model railway, gift shop, café, and more, Crewe Heritage Centre is a great day out for train enthusiasts and families alike. The centre also plays host to numerous external exhibitions and fairs.

  1. Day trips: Crewe’s train station is a major railway junction, meaning that you’re ideally situated to get access to Chester, Manchester, Liverpool, and even London. All these fantastic destinations are just a train journey away. You could pop to see the Christmas markets, head to Chester Zoo for the day, or journey to the Trafford Centre or Cheshire Oaks for some intense retail therapy. A train to Manchester Piccadilly from Crewe can cost as little as £4 for a return ticket. In Crewe, you have the best of both worlds; rural surroundings on your doorstep, and easy access to big cities and endless entertainment. It’s a win-win situation.
